1) Complete the licence application on the SIA website.
The licence application costs £190, and the SIA will get back to you within a matter of weeks or months depending on workload.
2) Complete identity checks.
The SIA will need you to verify your identity via photographic ID. This can easily be done at the Post Office. You can also get someone with a British passport - who is not related to you – to sign the back of your photo ID.
3) Submit your application to the SIA
The SIA will run a background check on your criminal record and verify your identity. If you have lived outside of the UK for more than 6 months, you may have to provide additional supporting evidence.
4) Get your SIA Licence in the post.
Congrats! You’ve renewed your SIA licence for the next 3 years.
Your SIA licence will not renew automatically. You must apply for renewal if you wish to work in the same role before your licence expires. You can apply to renew your licence 4 months before your current one expires.
You are not guaranteed a licence just because you already have one. This is because:
Please note: You can’t renew your SIA licence unless you have a current licence in that sector. If your licence has expired already, you must apply for a new SIA licence.
Please note: as of April 2021, you must hold The First Aid At Work (EFAW) qualification before applying for your SIA Top-Up Training.
For more information on SIA licence renewals, see the Government website here.
Of course! Simply get in touch with our friendly team and we will go through things with you step by step.

The training costs are £180, and your licence is £190 (payable to the SIA).
Your SIA Licence will be valid for 3 years from the date of issue.
To qualify, you must take the Door Supervisor Training Course. The Manned Security Guarding Course does not qualify you to work as a Door Supervisor.
Our 6-day Door Supervision Course is perfect for anybody wanting to work as a Door Supervisor or Security Guard. As an SIA licence holder, you will be permitted to work in nightclubs, retail, businesses, office blocks, and events.
The SIA will need you to verify your identity via photographic ID. This can easily be done at the Post Office. You can also get someone with a British passport - who is not related to you – to sign the back of your photo ID.
They will also run a background check on your criminal record and verify your identity. If you have lived outside of the UK for more than 6 months, you may have to provide additional supporting evidence.
Not necessarily, as this will depend on the nature of your offence. The SIA will review on a case-by-case basis. If you have further questions on this, get in touch via email or by calling us on 44604954.
The SIA aims to process applications within 6-weeks of receiving your application form. Please note that if the application contains errors or is missing information, this may delay the process.
The SIA Door Supervisor Licence qualifies you to work as a Door Supervisor or Security Guard. You will be permitted to work in nightclubs, retail, businesses, office blocks, and events.
If you work in the private security industry in the UK, you will almost always need an SIA Licence. The exception to this is if you are working ‘in-house’ i.e., you are employed by a supermarket chain and work as a security guard in one of their shops.
For more information, see the.
The main difference is that a Door Supervisor CAN work as a Security Guard, but a Security Guard CANNOT work as a Door Supervisor.
This is because of the level of training. The first 3 units of the courses are the exact same, but the Door Supervisor SIA Licence Course has an additional unit: Physical Intervention.
You will normally need to get a licence for each type of licensable activity that you do. However, some licences allow you to perform activities covered by other licences. An example of this would be a Door Supervisor Licence. This covers you for security guarding and using CCTV to identify trespassers or protect property.
As of April 2021, gaining an SIA licence will require a valid First Aid certificate. The minimum requirement is the EFAW Course.
The EFAW Course is assessed by in-class participation; there will be no exam. Provided you follow the lessons and can demonstrate what you have learnt, you will pass on the day.
Unfortunately not. It is a legal requirement that all First Aid Training is carried out in person.
